Career Description:
Surgical Technologists work in the operating room (under the supervision of surgical personnel) with the main role of assisting in organizing and setting up medical equipment, instruments, and other necessities during, post, and prior to surgery.
Job Responsibilities:
Prepare and organize equipment and supplies of Operating Room
Aid and assist surgeons and nurses during operating room procedures (help them don ER clothing, and pass sterile equipment, etc)
Clean surgical equipment post surgery
Prepare patients for surgery & sterilize dressings
Aid in preperation,caring, and disposal of specimens taken for lab analysis
Monitor breathing equipment
Maintain written account of patients condition pre-, mid-, and post surgery
Education & Training:
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree from accredited school
- Graduate from ARC/STSA program by CAAHEP
Training
- 60+ hours of approved continuing education in a 4 year period
Certifications:
- Certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist from the NBSTSA
Salary:
